Wilderness Survival - Basic Navigation

    This event is brought to you by Firewolf Self RelianceModule 1: Land navigation, course map, and compassLearning to navigate accurately is a vital skill every outdoorsman needs to learn and this is a basic map and compass course lasting 1 day this will include classroom combined with fieldwork students will learn :Understanding or deciphering a sighting mirror compass.Magnetic North vs. True North.Understanding and adjusting declinationChoosing and Understanding Topographic maps and their features.Plotting a course (Bearing) and following that course.Angulation or finding your location on the map.Determining and using a pace count.What to bring:Daypack or hydration packLunch/snacks and water ( There will be extra water provided )Proper clothing and footwear as you will be walking in an outdoor environment ( No flip flops )A small notebook preferably waterproof with 2 mechanical pencils.A compass with adjustable declination and sight mirror (if you have one)1 set of pace or ranger beads (if you have them)We now have loaner compasses and pace beads for students to use if needed.Maps for the course will be provided.
